Who will receive scholarship assistance?

The Pendergast Elementary Community Foundation awards a number of tuition scholarships to aspiring teachers who are accepted into the iTeachAZ Pendergast program, a partnership of the Pendergast Elementary School District and Arizona State University (West). The iTeachAZ program is an accelerated, 18 month degree program that provides intensive student teacher and classroom experiences. Because of the time commitment, most iTeachAZ students are unable to work during the program and need financial assistance.

The first Foundation scholarship winners entered the 18-month program in August 2009, graduated in December 2010, and have begun teaching in Pendergast and other West Valley school districts.

Who will benefit

The scholarship program is an investment in the West Valley of Phoenix, and the Pendergast community, with students and families being the primary recipients of the efforts of the Pendergast Elementary Community Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to help West Valley education students complete their degree program and provide incentive to teach in the Pendergast School District and other West Valley schools. The community benefits by having a program designed to promote higher education and to encourage graduates to return to Pendergast as teachers and leaders.

Selection criteria

The Scholarship Selection Committee bases its selection on current or previous affiliation with the Pendergast District as well as the criteria below:
